CERT

Service description

To improve IT security at HHU, the Center for Information and Media Technology (ZIM) operates a Computer Emergency Response Team, or CERT for short.

Free research and teaching require networks and communication channels that are as secure as possible. It is HHU's declared goal to guarantee this within the bounds of what is technically and personnel possible.

The CERT is responsible for the initial coordination, initial assessment and central processing of IT security incidents at HHU. Only through this central, independent and bundled approach can the extent and impact of IT security incidents be assessed for the entire HHU and only then can they be responded to appropriately and comprehensively.

The goal of the CERT is also to increase the IT security of HHU as a whole. Therefore, the systems and applications are proactively examined for their IT security and continuously monitored, even without a concrete reason. Only with this approach can the ever-increasing networking and increased dependency between systems in the HHU infrastructure be taken into account.

In addition, the CERT with its expertise in the field of IT security provides advice to various HHU departments and thus supports the secure use of HHU IT throughout its entire life cycle.

The service is aimed at all members of HHU.
